About the Author

David M. Malone was appointed as President of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) in 2008. Prior to that, Mr. Malone served as Canada's High Commissioner to India and non-resident Ambassador to Bhutan and Nepal. He has also served as a Canadian Ambassador at the United Nations. He has published extensively on peace and security issues, in book form and in journals. He has taught at Columbia University and the University of Toronto. He currently serves as Adjunct Professor at the New York University School of Law and is a Senior Fellow of Massey College in the University of Toronto. His most recent book is The Law and Practice of the United Nations (OUP, 2008). Previously, he wrote The International Struggle Over Iraq: Politics in the UN Security Council (OUP, 2006). With two co-editors, he is currently completing a volume on the contemporary governance crisis in Nepal.

Excellent Introduction to Indian Foreign Policy

I found about about this book because it got a good review in the Economist magazine. The book lives up to expectations. Mr. Malone has put together a well-researched, objective study of Indian foreign policy derived from both personal experience, scholarly sources, and association with diplomats, politicians, and journalists. As a student of Indian foreign policy, I know that there is not much concise, yet thorough material on Indian foreign policy, which is often lost in obscure journals; Indian foreign policy also takes a back seat to Chinese foreign policy among many experts in Asian international affairs. This is the best, readable introduction to this very interesting and important topic.

A multifaceted civilization

Malone brings us a fresh, well grounded view on Indian foreign policy, its society, with a careful look at the historic background since independence which shaped the way how Indians perceive the world, and how it interacts with its neighbourhood and strategic partners.

His optimistic general standpoint throughout the book doesn't seem far-fetched, but coming from someone who really knows the subject, having lived in India and acquainted himself with some of the most prestigious India experts and Indians. He shares a strong belief that India will be prompted, with increased frequency, to take positions on world issues - positions it can behold with self assertiveness, rooted on recent economic successes and a millenary culture, a varied, alien, complex culture, as it is.

This German-language reader is ideal for students of postmodern literature. Staying true to current literary drifts and inclinations, this reader focuses upon the relative everyday experiences as well as the nuances that help to establish and shape a unique perspective on many of today's German-language writers and their works.

Great!

This is a great book for the German language student. It has various stories (including a modern day version of Little Red Riding Hood) which are excellent, accompanied by a small glossary of vocabulary terms, and grammar lessons. After each story, there are also some questions that the student can answer, to be sure of a complete understanding of what was just read. There is also a cassette that is made to accompany this book (which unfortunately I don't have, so I can't rate it) and some of the stories are strictly on this cassette and can't be found in the book. There are questions and vocabulary terms that correspond to these listening exercises which are in this book as well. I really enjoy this book and I believe other German students will as well.

Good book, with some drawbacks

This book is certainly not for beginners, it is very advanced. I use this in my 3rd year German class (I am a German professor and native speaker), and it is *a little* difficult for them.

Here are the reasons I like this book:

1. It is almost 100% in German. The only English in the book is the translations in the glossary.
2. This book uses text in real German literature.
3. It challenges the students.

However, this comes with some drawbacks. If the students aren't at the appropriate level, they will fall behind quickly. The difficulty of the text can also discourage students if they aren't advanced enough to understand it. Also, because this includes much real-life German literature, some of the expressions are outdated; would never be used in conversation in German speaking areas.

Luckily there are *many* chapters in the book, and you (if you are teaching a class) could skip some of the stories that might provide little benefit or too great of a challenge!

This is an excellent resource for those in medical settings.

The authors suggest another method of evaluating ethical dilemmas. They suggest one examine the situation in light of medical indications, patient preferences, quality of life, and contextual features.

Because the approach is clinical, rather than theoretical, some of the medical details presented are somewhat technical. This is a book for those working in a medical setting or otherwise engaged with medical ethics.

I read the book based on the recommendation of a bioethics lecturer. It was further recommended recently by the Director of the Program in Medical Ethics for University of California, Irvine.

Through his experience and associations at several of the renowned medical academic institutions in this coutnry he sets forth a clear systematic approach to problems in bioethics. This includes a review of his "4-box" method for approaching ethical problems and then reviews basic ethical principles as well as legal definitions. His approach to clincal dilemmas provides a refreshing analytical process for dilineating issues and conflicts.

Loved it!

I really enjoy this author's books and am glad another in this series came out. So far the series focuses on a family in New Orleans. In this book Remy (a detective) and Jinx (a reformed con artist) must escape a Russian mob leader out to get Jinx since she saw him shoot her brother. The tension is great between the characters and the story kept me flipping pages. Fast paced and exciting. The only flaw I noticed was in certain parts, the editing seemed a little off or needed another run through. Which didn't affect the story or my rating. I bought the other two out and am looking forward to reading them. If you haven't tried this author, you should. She writes a great romantic suspense.

Remy had been assigned the Dubshenko's case and like many detectives before him he wanted to find something that could be use to nail Dubshenko. But Dubshenko always seemed to find a way to get off.
Jinx came home after a long day, kicked her shoes off and heard some voices coming from the living room. When she realized who it was she stayed back, since Dubshenko and her brother where having a heated conversation. Dubshenko always seemed to give Jinx a bad feeling. Before her eyes went from bad to worse and had her running for her life.
Remy was the officer that was in the office when a disheveled Jinx came in. She thought she made it and was safe. Wrong! Now she finds her self on the run with a virtual stranger who made her heart flutter.
Remy and Jinx needed to keep one step ahead of Dubshenko while also making a plan to take him down. Would they survive long enough to do this? Will they be able to find a way to work together or will they clash?
