Great for All Feared by the Wealthy

It is very much text literature of the Roosevelt administration. Great policies which should be reconsidered for today's modern economic woes. Workers rights are and have been an major issue for years now, mostly unresolved. and inadequate. Good work though it could have been more subjective or less.

For anybody interested in the great depression, this book will come as a disappointment. Its really more of a textbook, written in English at about a 10th grade level. Nothing thrilling in this tome, more or less a superficial catalog of some selective items from the Roosevelt Administration and a collection of speeches. Dull.

Great reference/resource for starting a gelateria . Don't even try to use cookbooks geared for home ice cream and attempt to change the quantity. This is a professional's book -- geared for quantity.

Do not bother. This book is not worth it.

Wow $62 dollars for this hunk of junk. I am seriously appalled. This is NOT a learning guide or reference book. This book has a tiny bit of content that you can easily find on the internet with minimal searching. Beyond that, it is just a bunch of recipes. Keep in mind that any company you buy ingredients from like Pregel, Fabbri, or even artisan Italian companies like FRUCTITAL S.r.l. will provide detailed recipes and phone assistance in producing high quality product. Some of the ideas in this book like buying Icecream base and diluting it with whole milk and sugar left me wondering how this guy is an authority on gelato production. Further, almost all his recipes suggest the use of corn syrup. I am no gelato expert but, I did just attend a week long gelato class in LA where the VERY Italian pastry chef was adamant to NEVER EVER use corn syrup in your artisan gelato. Should have taken my $62 dollars, crumpled them up, and lit them on fire. At least it would have made for an interesting YouTube video.

About the Author
Blake Crouch was born in the North Carolina piedmont in 1978. He earned his undergraduate degrees in English and creative writing from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, publishing his first two novels within five years of graduation. Since then he has published eight additional novels as well as multiple novellas, short stories, and articles. His novels Fully Loaded, Run, and Stirred, which was co-written with J. A. Konrath, have each earned spots in the top ten of the Kindle bestseller list. Three novels, one novella, and one short story have all been optioned for film. He lives today in Durango, Colorado.

Paul Michael Garcia, an AudioFile Earphones Award winner and former company member of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, received his classical training in theater from Southern Oregon University, where he worked as an actor, director, and designer.

Man's fate in information society

This slender booklet is a collection of short, late essays by the cosmopolitan thinker Vilem Flusser. Originally from the Czech Republic he fled to Brazil at the beginning of the Second World War and returned to Europe only in the early 1970s. He died in a car crash in 1991. Writing in German, Portuguese, and French, Flusser remained unpublished in English during his lifetime. In fact, the book reviewed here was the very first to be made accessible to an English readership. Meanwhile, based on as yet a very small selection of translated work, he has acquired a kind of a cultstatus with cognoscenti as an iconoclastic, clairvoyant linguistic philosopher and media theorist. Flusser's big theme is the transition from a pre-industrial to an industrial and, onwards, to an information society. In that process, spanning a mere 300 years, our relationship with our environment, increasingly populated by `non-things', by artificial intelligences and robotic machines, has been (and continuous to be) fundamentally altered. What happens when human beings morph from being productive, shape-giving artisans to abstract calculators, pressing keys on a keyboard, when our existential concerns shift from things to information? An interesting, ambiguous reciprocal dependency sets in: "the robot only does what the human being wants, but the human being can only want what the robot can do." Hence, humans become `functionaries' of the programmed tools they have created, inscribing themselves into a kind of (hopefully) benign totalitarianism governed by potentially endless but pre-programmed choice. Flusser's perspicaciousness in anticipating an emerging, virtual, omnidirectionally transparant society is admirable. Although "The Shape of Things" is a slim booklet, it is very difficult to do justice to Flusser's ideas in the space of a short review. Flusser's way of communicating complex ideas is highly idiosyncratic. His idiom is more journalistic than scholarly: he uses clear and simple language in very short, punchy essays. There are no references to other thinkers or to secondary literature. His argument is characterized by unexpected twists, linking the mundane to the exotic, relying often on clever etymological and linguistic reasoning. The style is terse, at times to the point of abruptness. Flusser is a combative thinker, not afraid to take provocative positions to tease his readers. Sometimes there is a clenched teeth kind of wittiness. This book is not a full-fledged, methodically argued `philosophy of design' but a series of elliptical, thought-provoking essays intent on redefining the debate on what makes (and keeps) us human in a world engulfed by immaterial objects and smart robots.
