Great book! A must read for Malcolmologists. The research is superb, enlightening me on the FBI's participation in his murder. Thumbs up.

The Ultimate Gift Of Scholarship.

In studying the lives of Historical figures, we all have to rely on the people who lived around them, those who left documentation of their impressions, feelings, experiences and observations. It's rare that we ourselves have had first-hand experiences with the Historical personalities under our study. As we study the documentation left by others, all we can do is to ask reasonable questions as to the information's authenticity, as we use it. We must be diligent in making clear footnotes to indicate to others where we may have gathered the information.
I say all of these things as backdrop to this current book. I have been gathering information about Malcolm X for 34 years, beginning with my reading of “The Autobiography of Malcolm X. “ I have read quite a number of books about him, viewed a number of documentaries, including Spike Lee's movie, read magazine articles, and attended events where people who knew him personally have spoken. I am not exactly a Malcolm amateur. In the course of my reading, I have developed my own comprehensive beliefs and impressions about Malcolm.
In reading this book, I am simply blown away. I am blown away by the fact that every single statement and assertion that Zak Kondo makes in this book lines up with all of the information that I've gained about Malcolm over my 34 years of study. Every single one. There is not a SINGLE THING that Baba Kondo says in this book that I would dispute.
I am also blown away by the level of his scholarship. Every single assertion that he makes in this book is footnoted to the point where the reader is free to go behind him to see where he obtained it. One does not have to necessarily agree with his interpretations and conclusions, but I am proud for him that he can point any person to the exact source of his information, so the person is free to formulate one's own interpretations and conclusions. Just to give one indication, the book contains a total of 1265 footnotes. As a diligent reader of History, I can, without a doubt, say that it is rare to see anyone go into a subject with such depth. A very comprehensive bibliography is also available for the diligent observer.
The icing on the cake of this book comes from the fact that every single possible angle of Malcolm's assassination is covered, with a mind-blowing depth of analysis, a depth that makes me pay the ultimate respect to Baba Kondo—I'd say that he analyzes the information with an intellect that is Malcolm-esque in nature, for it seems only Malcolm himself could have been as brilliant in perusing and going through the information at the depth at which Baba Kondo does.
His style is also similar to Malcolm's in that the book is mind-numbingly lucid and clear, with no possible space left for the reader to misunderstand what he is saying. That was also a special gift of Malcolm's, the ability to express complex ideas in the simplest of language. Baba Kondo has that gift. There may be future books coming down the pike on Malcolm X's assassination. I don't know. But, my imagination is limited in that I cannot imagine, in my wildest musings, a book coming out about it that is more clear, comprehensive and that goes into it with more depth and quality of intelligence that this one does. I just cannot imagine that. This book is more than a Herculean effort. It is the greatest testament to Baba Kondo's respect for Malcolm X that he could ever come up with a book as special as this one, and it is a gift to all serious students of Malcolm's life. The ultimate gift of scholarship.
