Great sequel to the series!

I found it to be better than the first one. The paranormal side of the plot had more of an influence on the development of the story, and to me it gave it a feel of adventure, to complement the romance (that i already expected would be there). I'm very anxious to see what will happen in the next book!! It will be interesting to see if Joey will be older, since the time gap between the first and the second was a few years.

Practical indeed, very usable, and an interesting read beyond one's own domain.

In the last 50 years there are two things that have emerged in a technological world. First, applied mathematics has moved much more into numerical methods than in trying to solve problems analytically. The second thing that has emerged is that computing has both led and followed the numerical computing revolution. Python, amongst languages, is arguably a language with links to optimized code (such as C or Fortran) plus a language capable of a plethora of tasks, including scientific calculation, statistical modelling, network analysis, machine learning, language processing, and so forth. Johansson's book fits beautifully into a niche where serious science or other endeavour requires both some cookbook code and explanation of some basics. This book steps beautifully through from setting up to topics that will help a person with intermediate mathematical understanding and basic Python programming skill implement practical and useful code. There is a coding consistency that allows the user to add and modularise code blocks, if required. There is the support of code online. As a fairly critical consumer of literature purporting to be of practical industry use, my sense is that this book exceeds expectations.

This was average by author dumas standards. He is known to have an assistant write in some of his novels. It seems to be apparent to me whenever there is a deviation into the historical context of the story, which is necessary but is written in a completely different boring matter of fact style. Still a great story as wtih all his novels. Probably four stars when compared to other novels but I hold dumas to higher standards because he is the best storyteller of all time.

Because of her difficult and painful, past she speaks from the heart and not only helps children from the foster care system get ahead, she tells our youth of America, how to be their best! To top it off she is God fearing Christan, wife, mother, grand mother, businesswoman with a work ethic to put most of us to shame! This is a book I read for the first time, 2 years ago and have read 2 more times. I have since given more than 10 copies to family & friends because it leaves you with such a warm feeling inside. Its inspiring hearing Rhonda's story & moreover it gives the reader the feeling that they too can overcome obstacles that may have stifled them in the past!

I highly recommend this book! It has a permanent home on my table so I can reference some of her key tips!

Rhonda is so very amazing, her book has helped me in so many ways. Even if I start to forget what I learned from it, there is always a little voice in the back of my head saying "Rhonda would not have done it this away" so I regroup and stand strong. I am going to be the coolest Christian helping others woman, next to Rhonda of course. I still have a lot of work to do but I am getting there. Times are still hard financially but with the help of her book I can say that I am learning to deal with it much better. Thank You Rhonda for all you have been through, it really has PURPOSE! I think I would die if I lost this book, I always go back to it for her wisdom when needed. I have also shared it with some young women I know who are struggling. A Must Have Book for Everyone!

Assumes facts not in evidence.

Yes, it's a "solution." But it assumes tools we aren't told the original characters had available to them, and technology we aren't told was available in the setting of the original story. It's not an actual solution, it's handwaving. If you buy this expecting to see that somehow, someone has finally found a way out for poor stupid Marilyn, you *will* be disappointed. The Cold Equations must be balanced.

That being said, it's not a bad story, and I'm certainly not sorry I read it.

It could have been written with a little more empathy (I found it a little abrupt, but that might be what the author is going for), but overall, worth a read.

About the Author
The author was born in 1943, and experienced his earliest years of life in eastern Utah's Uinta Basin; first near the town of Myton, then Roosevelt. In 1954, the family moved to Provo, where he attended Provo High School, and later Brigham Young University, where he earned a B.S. degree in Sociology. Shortly thereafter he discovered that was the wrong subject, so he attended the University of Utah, where he received his Master of Science degree in Geography, finishing that in June, 1970.

It was then real life began, for on June 9, 1970, he put a pack on his back and started traveling for the first time. Since then he has seen 223 countries, republics, islands, or island groups. All this wandering has resulted in a number of books written and published by himself. It's a Friggin' Adventure Bible, but Treat with Respect

This is the bible of Canyoneering in SE Utah. The simple maps, concise descriptions and knowledgeable tips will get you into as much trouble as you want . . . and that's why we do this, right? The park service has baned Kelsey's books from their bookstores because he "reveals too much," and they claim people "get into trouble" following his guides -- bugger to them! People can be unprepared idiots. If you read the damn book you'll realise that only trained people should be stemming up slot canyons, swimming hypothermic plunge pools and gingerly investigating delicate Anaszi ruins -- not your average hee-haws looking for a good place to swill a 12-Pack of beer. The beer swillers don't want this book, go to Lake Powell instead.

Opens the door

Before Kelsey, all the guide books declared many canyons impassable. In this book, Kelsey has provided the information to hike canyons safely that were unvisited before his book. I've used this book since the First Edition in 1986. It's a classic and still tops. One warning. Kelsey is a stronger hiker than most of us. Add about 50% to his hiking time estimates if you're not under 35 and in good shape.

Good news, bad news

This book has the most thorough coverage of the canyon country available. It's allowed us to find several sites that we couldn't find in any other guidebook. That's the good news. The bad news is that what Kelsey considers non-technical often requires a harness and rope. He's obviously a climber, and on several occasions we've had to backtrack because we came to an impassable pour-off or cliff. So just be advised that hikers will often find the non-technical to be more technical than they'd expect from the descriptions.

About the Author

Hongji Yang is Leader of SERG at the Software Technology Research Laboratory at De Montfort University, UK. He serves in the Department of Computer Technology. His research interests include software engineering and distributed computing. He teaches Software Architecture and Software Evolution. He served as a programme co-chair at IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance 1999 and as programme chair at IEEE Computer Software and Application Conference 2002.

Xiaodong Liu received his PhD in Computer Science from De Montfort University, UK. He is a reader and the director of Centre for Information & Software Systems, in the School of Computing, Edinburgh Napier University, UK. As an active researcher, his current research focuses on Context-aware adaptive services, service evolution, mobile clouds, pervasive computing, software reuse, and component-based software engineering. Dr. Liu has led 6 externally funded projects, and published over 50 papers in established international journals and conferences and 2 book chapters. He is the inventor of 1 patent registered in UK, USA and at International Level. He has been the chair, co-chair or PC member of a number of IEEE and IASTED international conferences. He is the editorial board member of 3 international journals and editor of 2 research books. He is a member of IEEE Computer Society and British Computer Society.
