Thin is not just a slender volume

This was a bit slender, both in material and volume. Given the price, I would have hoped there would have been more information within. When I purchased Armies of the Napoleonic Wars, this and the infantry volume both became expendable. It's a good book, mind you, but I simply feel that it could have been more. The illustrations are nice, and the texts complements them, but given the sheer number of nations, you need more than what was here to justify the price, unless it's used and cheap.

Better for someone who is new to Napoleonics

Nicely bound with a beautiful cover, I found this book to be greatly disappointing.
On the other hand, I feel that this book would be nice for a newcomer to Napoleonics. While the book has many illustrations, none are in color. When a photograph of a sword or pistol would do, a drawing is substituted. It is definitely overpriced. (I can go on, but I won't.)
Needless to say that as one who has already 200 Napoleonic titles in his library, I won't be buying the companion book about Napoleonic Infantry. Why they made it a hard bound book is bizarre.
On second thought, since I learned (yesterday) that the publisher doesn't accept unsolicited manuscripts from would-be authors, I won't be buying any books from them.

About the Author
CARSTEN PETER, is a World Press Photo award winner and regular contributor to National Geographic magazine, specializing in going to extremes. He searches for wild places where his survival depends on his wits and his skills as a technical climber, paraglider, caver, diver, and canyoneer. He is enthusiastically obsessed with devising innovative photographic techniques to capture never-before-seen images from some of the scariest environments on the planet. Kick start your SilverStripe experience

The day I first heard of SilverStripe, was also the day that I discovered that a book for SilverStripe was in the works. After a few days of playing with the CMS I definitely wanted to get the book. By shear luck I got in contact with Wiley Publishing and was able to receive a review copy of the book. So hence I'm giving my first impressions here. Now I should mention that I am not a developer, and only an amateur webdesigner. I do have some basic PHP programming skills, and am familiar with the idea of Object Oriented Programming, which, as I discovered, is invaluable for working with this CMS. At this point I'm about half way through the book, and was impressed with the well structured approach. The concepts of the MVC (Model-View-Controller) structure of SilverStripe are explained clearly, and customizing the CMS is at least at its basic level straight forward. I like that every concept explained in the book is tied into an evolving web project, that gets a little more complex with each turn of the page. Again, I'm only half way through the book, and for a seasoned developer some of what is written might be trivial, but for those with limited programming skills this book will put you on the right track.
As a side note, the book does not simply rehash the documentation and tutorials on the official [...] website. It is stand alone and compliments in depth what's already out there. Thanks to the SilverStripe team for this book and for a great CMS.

This books takes you from 0 - 60 in... well very quickly anyway. For an introductory book, it does a very good job at taking you through everything that you need to know and getting you right into coding and designing a useful application. I very much recommend this book!
